This release is part of a series curated and conceived by Chiara Lee, Freddie Murphy and Davide Quadrio as audio catalogue for the temporary exhibitions hosted at MAO Museum. This third output is released within the exhibition “Rabbit Inhabits the Moon. The Art of Nam June Paik in the Mirror of Time” (MAO Torino, 19 October 2024 – 23 March 2025) .

Specifically commissioned for the exhibition Rabbit Inhabits the Moon. The Art of Nam June Paik in the Mirror of Time, Sounds Heard from the Moon, Part. 2 by composer and musician Park Jiha draws on the lunar imagery that runs throughout the show—combining the sharp clarity of the moon reflected on water in the 14th-century Avalokitesvara Watermoon with the mediated, screen-bound moon of Nam June Paik’s Rabbit Inhabits the Moon. These contrasting visions speak to us of a world turned upside down, where the simple act of gazing at the moon—now, as ever—remains one of the most profoundly contemplative gestures available to human beings.

Installed within the exhibition space, Park Jiha’s original composition evokes the imagined sounds of the moon, shaping a soundscape that resonates with the exhibition’s themes—inviting a multisensory experience of reflection, disorientation, and expanded perception.

**수작업 넘버링 한정판 250장**

본 음반은 이탈리아 MAO 박물관에서 개최된 기획전의 사운드 아카이브로 구상된 오디오 시리즈의 일부로, 키아라 리(Chiara Lee), 프레디 머피(Freddie Murphy), 다비데 콰드리오(Davide Quadrio)가 공동으로 기획하고 큐레이션했습니다. 시리즈의 세 번째 발매작인 본 음반은 《달에 사는 토끼: 시간의 거울 속 백남준의 예술》(MAO 토리노, 이탈리아, 2024.10.19–2025.3.23) 전시를 위해 제작되었습니다.

작곡가이자 연주자인 박지하가 해당 전시를 위해 특별히 작곡한 Sounds Heard from the Moon, Part. 2는 전시 전반을 관통하는 ‘달’의 이미지를 소리로 탐색하는 작품입니다. 14세기 불화 《수월관음도》 속 물 위에 비친 달의 투명하고 정제된 이미지와 백남준의 작품 《달에 사는 토끼》에 등장하는, 기술을 매개로 재현된 브라운관 속 달의 이미지가 작품 안에서 교차하며 서로 다른 시간과 인식의 층위를 형성합니다.

이처럼 대비되는 달의 풍경은 세계의 질서가 뒤집힌 듯한 감각을 불러일으키는 한편, 시대와 매체를 넘어 이어져 온 인간의 근원적인 행위, 즉 달을 바라보며 사유하는 시선을 환기합니다. 물 위에 반사된 달과 전자적 이미지로 재현된 달은 서로 다른 방식으로 우리의 감각을 비추며, 관조와 매개, 침묵과 노이즈 사이의 긴장을 섬세하게 드러냅니다.

전시 공간에 설치된 이 사운드 컴포지션은 실재하지 않는 달의 소리를 상상 속에서 불러내 공간을 감싸는 사운드스케이프로 확장됩니다. 박지하의 음악은 관람객이 방향 감각의 흔들림과 시간의 중첩, 지각의 확장을 경험하도록 이끕니다. 본 음반은 전시의 한 장면을 기록하는 동시에, 전시장을 벗어난 이후에도 이어지는 사유의 여운을 담아낸 청각적 아카이브입니다.
